The Cherokee Pollinator Garden is adjoining the Rose Garden at Cherokee Lake Park. The Friends of Lost Creek Forest looks after and maintains the garden. September and October are peak butterfly watching season in our region. We celebrate our winged friends and our garden with this annual festival. In past years we have had monarchs to release, bee-keepers, face-painting and other children’s activities, native butterfly plants to share, and lots of information about butterflies and other pollinators, as well as our beautiful garden and its insects to browse and enjoy. Refreshments, too! Every year we have been lucky to have at least a couple of species of caterpillars to see, including our favorite, the giant swallowtail, which we affectionately call the “bird poop” caterpillar, named for its clever camouflage. We expect and hope to have many of these same opportunities this year. Make a point to stop by and enjoy this beautiful place.
