The Wiregrass Gallery is a Co-op of local and regional artists, located in downtown Thomasville, GA. The Gallery is excited to host a special show for the students of Thomasville and Thomas County. Area art teachers have been asked to submit student artwork to the gallery for display during the month of March. The show will run March 1-31 and is free for public viewing. Every March, Youth Art Month is celebrated nationwide to bring focus to the arts and its impact on the total education and growth of young people. A national arts advocacy program, Youth Art Month was initiated in 1961 by the ACMI(Art and Creative Materials Institute.) The CAE(Council for Art Education, Inc.) administers the program along with the sponsorship of NAEA (National Art Education Association). The Wiregrass Gallery: An Artist Co-op joins organizations across the country in encouraging a commitment to art education, for building not only creativity, but also problem solving, observation, and communication. March is set aside to promote art education as an important tool providing a means of expression for children of all ages. Art helps children explore their thoughts and emotions, giving them a visual voice to help them communicate. Creating with various art medium, helps children to become more self-aware, and have an improved sense of self-esteem and well-being.
